Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his first title following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
